It’s Tax Season – What to Bear in Mind

By Ascendant Financial Services (Pty) Ltd

The SARS eFiling platform and its recent updates offer a range of functionalities to make tax filing more convenient and efficient. Here are the key points you need to know:

Auto-Assessments:

  • 7 July – 20 July 2025
  • SARS will automatically assess qualifying taxpayers during this period. Review and accept your assessment via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp

Non-Provisional Taxpayers (Not Auto-Assessed):

  • 21 July – 20 October 2025
  • If not selected for auto-assessment, this is your window to file your tax return.

Provisional Taxpayers:

  • 21 July 2025 – 19 January 2026
  • This applies to individuals earning income other than a regular salary (e.g. freelance or investment income).
  1. Log into eFiling or the SARS MobiApp to view your assessment.
  2. Review the data used by SARS to calculate your assessment.
  3. Ensure your information is up to date for a smooth filing experience.
  4. Agree with the assessment:
    • If a refund is due, it will be automatically paid into your bank account within approximately 72 hours.
    • If you owe SARS, make the payment via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp by the due date shown on the “Notice of Assessment”.
  5. Disagree with the assessment:
    • Access your tax return via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp, complete the return, and file it by the due date.
