The SARS eFiling platform and its recent updates offer a range of functionalities to make tax filing more convenient and efficient. Here are the key points you need to know:
Key Dates for the Upcoming Tax Season:
Auto-Assessments:
- 7 July – 20 July 2025
- SARS will automatically assess qualifying taxpayers during this period. Review and accept your assessment via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp
Non-Provisional Taxpayers (Not Auto-Assessed):
- 21 July – 20 October 2025
- If not selected for auto-assessment, this is your window to file your tax return.
Provisional Taxpayers:
- 21 July 2025 – 19 January 2026
- This applies to individuals earning income other than a regular salary (e.g. freelance or investment income).
Steps for Auto-Assessments:
- Log into eFiling or the SARS MobiApp to view your assessment.
- Review the data used by SARS to calculate your assessment.
- Ensure your information is up to date for a smooth filing experience.
- Agree with the assessment:
- If a refund is due, it will be automatically paid into your bank account within approximately 72 hours.
- If you owe SARS, make the payment via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp by the due date shown on the “Notice of Assessment”.
- Disagree with the assessment:
- Access your tax return via eFiling or the SARS MobiApp, complete the return, and file it by the due date.
